NHS NCL End of Life Engagement
Overview
Dear colleague,
Our vision, as set out in our Population Health and Integrated Care Strategy, is to work with residents of all ages in NCL so they can have the best start in life, live more years in good physical and mental health in a sustainable environment, to age within a connected and supportive community and to have a dignified death. Every year, around eight thousand of our residents die and it's vital they are all enabled to receive care and die in a manner that they choose.
We have delivered improvements, but there is much more to do if we are to develop a model of care which maximises the opportunity to have a culturally competent and dignified death - and gains the confidence of our population that we have the workforce, skills and competencies to care for them in alternative settings.
Nationally, some £22bn (2022) of total public expenditure across agencies is spent on people in their last 12 months of life – with £12bn spent by the NHS. Of this 80% is hospital care – so there are public sector sustainability benefits too.
We are keen to hear your views on End of Life Care and invite you to complete the survey by following the link at the bottom of this page.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
Yours faithfully
